 Greetings Buist Academy Families,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the 2012-2013 school year. My name is Shawntay White and I’m delighted to be the new principal of Buist Academy for Advanced Studies. I am a South Carolina native, originally from Manning.  After graduating from Manning High School, I attended the College of Charleston. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education, with certifications in learning disabilities, emotional disabilities and elementary education. After teaching elementary and middle school students for several years, I went on to pursue my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Gardner-Webb University. I have spent the last seven years working as an assistant principal in Charleston County School District. The last three of those seven years, I have had the great privilege of calling Buist Academy home.

I am looking forward to the 2012-2013 school year; the theme for this school year is On the Move. I will continue to support the high standards of academic excellence at Buist Academy; however, we will not sit still, we will move forward with innovative ideas and opportunities for student growth and achievement. The faculty and staff will continuously look for ways to support students through planning, data analysis and partnerships with parents and community stakeholders.  Our goal is to continue to utilize the International Baccalaureate Programme as our vehicle to drive rigorous, standards-aligned, globally-minded instruction.

We are also literally on the move this year.  In just a few months, we will begin clearing the shelves, filling boxes, pulling out rolls of tape and preparing labels for our journey back home to 103 Calhoun St.  The building is still on schedule, with a summer 2013 move-in date! We truly can’t wait to be back within walking distance of so many great educational opportunities and resources.

Please check out our new website at for updates and announcements throughout the school year. Enclosed you will also find some very important dates and registration information. As always we have an open door policy and look forward to your continued support.
